SMART NAKURU, founded in 2000, is a community-based organization addressing local social challenges. Officially registered in 2004, it partnered with Aid for Trade (now Community Development Network) in 2009, receiving 21 sewing machines to support underprivileged women. In 2010, additional tools were provided by Tools with a Mission (UK) and Tools to WORK (Netherlands). By 2014, a community-supported workshop was built to train 40 women in sewing. Celebrating 20 years in 2024, SMART NAKURU hosted events like tree planting and sought support for trainees. By 2030, it plans to expand to Mautuma, Kakamega County, empowering 500 women and youth.
